UNC Chapel Hill Screenings of documentary March 18th & 19th

Chatham County filmmaker Linda Booker's documentary Love Lived on Death Row will be screening two evenings in March as part of UNC Chapel Hill's CPA Creative Campus Initiative "Criminal Justice: The Death Penalty Examined." The 84-minute documentary chronicles the four Syriani siblings journey to forgiveness and reconciliation with their father 14 years after he was sentenced to death in North Carolina for the 1990 murder of their mother. The film also features Greensboro resident Meg Eggleston, who became a friend and spiritual advisor to their father Elias. In 2005, the Syriani siblings engaged in a public campaign for their father's clemency including appearances on CNN’s Larry King Show and Good Morning America.

The documentary will be shown March 18th, 7:00 p.m. at the Hanes Art Center auditorium. A second screening will be held the following evening March 19th, 6:30 p.m. at UNC's School of Law, Rm #4085. Admission to both events is free/no tickets required. Co-sponsors of the screening include UNC Clinical Law Programs, UNC School of Law Death Penalty Project and UNC School of Law Domestic Violence Advocacy Project. UNC Law Professor Deborah Weissman, interviewed for the film, was involved in the clemency appeal for Syriani. The film also includes comment by Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking that was adapted into the award-winning film of the same name.
